With predominantly dry pavement, a huge turnout, and morning temps near zero rounding into a warm, sunny afternoon, the 36th annual Snow Joke Half Marathon will go in the books as an all-time great. Some 806 runners completed the course, by the far the biggest Snow Joke ever. And the times were very fast. Overall female winner Trisha Drobeck, of Missoula, broke the women’s course record by almost three minutes, finishing in 1:21:05. Men’s overall champ Jason Delany, from Polson, ran a blistering 5:27 pace to finish in 1:11:28.
Big Fork’s Anna Young and Missoula’s Morris Wrecker paced the Pygmys. Jesse Rumsey, a Columbia Falls runner, topped the Zulu women. And Scott Gaiser of Kalispell won the Zulu men’s division. Among furry four-leggers, a dasher named Dio took the honors, and graciously dragged partner Jake Steuben of Kalispell to the awards ceremony.
Special mention goes to Montana Governor Steve Bullock, who ran a very impressive 1:39:36, and 12-year-old Anton Young, from Big Fork, who beat him!
Remember, Snow Joke winners who are members of the USATF are recognized as the official Montana half marathon champions for 2015. Congrats to all.
And thanks to all of our hard-working volunteers who make the race possible, to the sponsors, and to all the folks who came out to enjoy the day with us. The Snow Joke rocked this year!
